About my Work

People often ask about the images in my art and where they come from – and the answer is: memory and make-believe!

We are all influenced by everything we’ve seen or experienced and this is what I draw from (along with a whole lot of imagination). My images may seem familiar at first, but they’re rarely intended to be literal. A favorite painting is called “Memories and Make Believe” and that pretty well sums it up.

My work tends to be in series – meaning that with each new painting or drawing, I nearly always feel compelled to find out what is beyond… What’s over the horizon? What have I not yet seen? In that sense, all of my work has been along a sort of wondrous continuum – each new discovery pushing me on to the next.

In recent time, my work has reflected a fascination with the impact we are having (for better or worse) on our planet. Exploration of these themes has led to a series that I call “aerial landscapes” – fanciful views of our earth, often playfully employing differing viewpoints within the same work. Probably inevitably, these have drawn me even further, to a concept that I’m still not sure how to label – images that may be simultaneously refracting not only light, but time itself….
